It'd difficult to judge whether or not Twitter will be the platform of choice for late-stage buying cycle communications between customers and companies. What I find most interesting about your post, though, is the idea that real-time search can become a form of both marketing and customer service. I find this amusing, because so many companies have spent the last 30 years running away from an emphasis on customer service. What is the likelihood that companies will begin begin re-investing time, money, and energy in a new form of customer service via real-time search/Twitter? Raising consumer expectations for customer service will continue to make companies more vulnerable and I suspect that many companies will be slow to increase their customer service obligations. It's not only the giving up of control (or the illusion of control) that this entails, but the establishment of infrastructure, training practices, and processes to ensure a serious upside to such a change in sales and marketing philosophy.

this is good stuff. we're on the same page. I think we're going to start to see models that shift away from agencies and shops harboring creative minds. What if there was a way for all these creative people to collaborate? You're right, Jeannie. The takeaway is *NOT* "watch your words". The takeaway is that every instance of media that you post to the internet can and WILL be judged as a standalone.

Being that that's the case, you have to be especially careful with microblogging, because you're limited to 140 characters. Be specific and be precise or don't post anything at all.

And it's pretty timely for me about Net Neutrality: I just got a new Comcast Cable installation. I walk out of the room for a few minutes, and when I check my laptop later, there's a mounted image entitled "Comcast Installation Wizard". WTF? Luckily OS X is a fairly secure BSD-flavor, so I'd have to type my password for some of the rootkit-style crapola. Some research about the "Broadjump Client Foundation" turned up this euphemistic little piece of PR:

Nah. Bullshit. The indie gloom rock kids don't make diddly squat from their record sales. They make money touring, selling useless shit (t-shirts) and the only reason they get big crowds is because of the thousands of broke kids who STEAL their music, spread the word and love and then buy the rest of their offerings. Pirating hasn't contributed to the lowered earnings of small bands....it's the opposite. In this day and age, more mediocre talents are making a living than ever before. Unconvinced? Check out Pitchfork--hundreds of crappy bands that would have NEVER seen the light of day twenty years ago. Existing because of copy mania, not because of sales.

As far as the ethics of digital piracy goes--

Download whatever you want. To me the ideal setup would be for us to have free unlimited access to all media, and pay for what we LIKE/enjoy/want to support.

I disagree with the current laws regarding digital media, and so I choose not to obey them. The laws as they stand empower media empires to steal from artists. This is the example they are setting. In fact, theft is a common method of success in our society, as long as one can justify it and avoid being persicuted.

I just had to comment on this post that if you watch the video and are interested in WHY that woman with the large breasteses (her name is Tania, btw:) opens up the clip even though she actually has nothing to say about the issue of net neturality itself, than I offer you this thought:
First of all, I SCOURED the internet to find one video from these iPower people that DIDN'T feature Tania's lovely boobs. I mean, I wanted the topic to be serious. Then I found their channel on YouTube (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=t89WwcsOj9U) and realized that THESE PEOPLE HAVE FIGURED OUT THE FORMULA. Large tits = viral video. Hilarious. Yeah, I've been downloading for a while now.. I totally agree that if it's not a top-40 record-deal size artist, they could definitely benefit from actually having their album bought and paid for. And yes, I've actually loved something I downloaded so much that I deleted it and bought it off iTunes. Puscifer springs to mind.

In some warped modified moral system that exists within my brain...I have decided that physically giving someone music is ok...it is a present, a suggestion, an opportunity to share. But downloading from a stranger at your own will...is not. At that point it is "taking," which becomes stealing.
I know this is a soft sore point, but if you support anything besides top 40, I believe you are contributing to the income of the artist and justifiably encouraging them to create more art for your pleasure.
This is a humble non-judging suggestion that there is a difference between sharing and taking...and that buying bad music is worth the risk, because finding great music is a great reward.

Amen, Jeannie! What's funny is I made a CD of Rolling Stone's Top 15 tracks of 2008...and Andi and I tossed it after one try...of course I used Limewire (old school) to grab the songs. Listened to Rihanna and Beyonce, TI, Jeezy for the first time...and all were horrific, especially the latter who rap-mumbled some incoherent bullshit about life after the first black president. And don't get me started on the Kings of Leon...my god how the once decent have fallen. Oh, or the song, Furr by BlitzenKrapper or whatever they're called. The #5 song of the year? Shit. Does nobody listen to Bobby Conn or the logjam of genius pouring out of Chicago these days? I know, it's what I get for trying RStone, but....where else can I go? Pitchfork? You nailed it. Stuck in yesteryear, slavishly devoted to one-dimension of music....like Sonoma County and it's fixation with food and wine. In the end, the narrowness will kill 'em both. Has killed 'em both.
